Sample Size & Power Analysis
Determine the minimum sample size ($N$) required per group for an independent two-sample t-test.
0.2 = Small, 0.5 = Medium, 0.8 = Large
0
Total N required: 0
Experimental Design
Running an experiment with a sample size that is too small drastically increases the chance of missing a true biological effect (Type II error). Conversely, using too many subjects wastes resources and violates the ethical principle of reduction in animal research.
Standard Approximation Formula:
N (per group) = 2 * (Z_{1-α/2} + Z_{1-β})² / d²
*This is an approximation for two independent groups of equal size.*
